Janice
Gronvold, the founder and director of Spectrec,
has
over 20 years' experience in business development in the spa, health,
and resort industries. Before founding Spectrec, she graduated from the
Stuart Graduate School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology
and the eBusiness Strategy Program at the University of Chicago. She
has held executive positions with world-renowned destination health resorts
and consults for various spa and medical organizations in the United
States and abroad. Her media placements for publicity and editorial have
appeared in national and international publications; with projects featured
on CNN, BBC, ABC, NBC, NPR and the Travel News Network.
As an advisory board member and lead instructor for the Spa and Hospitality and International Hospitality Management Certificate Programs for the University of California, Irvine, she is active in developing business, marketing, and management programs for spa, hospitality, and healthcare professionals. "Part of my affinity for the wellness industry, with its holistic approach to health, is that I believe in a holistic approach to business," says Ms. Gronvold. “It’s an exciting to time to watch the evolution of an integrative health care model that is evolving from disease management to a wellness approach linking the body-mind, social and environmental aspects of health. It’s more than a trend, it’s a monumental movement with unlimited potential reflecting the convergence of many industries such as spa, medicine, hospitality, real estate, architecture, healthy lifestyle products, and travel.” Gronvold’s work centers on spas promoting wellness services; medical facilities incorporating integrative modalities; hospitals offering therapeutic spa services; hotels providing spa and medical services, and residential communities developing healthy lifestyle programs. Additionally, Ms. Gronvold contributed to a book published by Praeger Publishing in 2007 titled Whole Person Healthcare, addressing new paradigms of medicine based upon a wellness model. She is currently contributing to another book project that will be addressing the subject of international medical tourism and she contributes to UK-based Spa Business Magazine.
With professional membership in spa, marketing, and environmental organizations, she is frequently called upon as a guest speaker to provide informative presentations on current issues in the spa, medical and green business arenas. These include the International Spa Association, and Reed Medical Spa Conferences in New York and Los Angeles, and educational events sponsored by organizations such as the American Institute of Architects. “I’m passionate about helping diverse companies and industries envision the spectrum of business opportunities that meets today’s demand while also preparing for the emerging paradigm of tomorrow’s business landscape.
