Janice Gronvold, the founder and director of Spectrec, has over 20 years' experience in business development in the hospitality, resort, spa, and health industries. Before founding Spectrec, she graduated from the Stuart Graduate School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the eBusiness Strategy Program at the University of Chicago. She has held executive positions with world-renowned destination health resorts and consults for various spa and medical organizations in the United States and abroad. Her media placements for publicity and editorial have appeared in national and international publications; with projects featured on CNN, BBC, ABC, NBC, NPR and the Travel News Network.

Gronvold’s work centers on organizations promoting destination travel, medical, wellness services and healthy lifestyle programs. Ms. Gronvold contributes to a variety of print and online industry publications including UK-based Spa Business and China-based AsiaSpa magazines. Book projects include chapter contribution to book published by Praeger Publishing in 2007 titled Whole Person Healthcare, addressing new paradigms of medicine based upon a wellness model. She contributed to another book project, released in January 2010, Bust the Silos, for a chapter profiling emerging business management trends in international and medical wellness tourism. 
 
With professional membership in hospitality, spa, marketing, and environmental organizations, she is frequently called upon as a guest speaker to provide informative presentations on current issues in the hospitality, spa, medical, tourism and green business arenas. These include the International Spa Association and Reed Medical and Spa Conferences in New York and Los Angeles, and educational events sponsored by organizations such as the American Institute of Architects. “I’m passionate about helping diverse companies and industries envision the spectrum of business opportunities that meets today’s demand while also preparing for the emerging paradigm of tomorrow’s business landscape. This is especially relevant in the arena of green business where a new cultural narrative has emerged, providing guidelines for replacing unsustainable systems and infrastructures with new models linking profitability with efficient, innovative, and restorative use of resources.
 
The fast-growing spa, hospitality and healthy lifestyle industries are ideally suited to incorporate healthier, ecologically-sound, and sustainable initiatives that reduce costly resource consumption and polluting waste.  Ms. Gronvold’s environmental education programs on sustainable business practices are presented at various industry conferences as well as academic programs offered through the University of California, Irvine. The next Fundamentals of Green Spas, Hotels and Resorts course will be offered in spring 2010.
